2008 film "Taken": How far is too far with Porn?

Where does lust end?

After watching the 2008 movie "Taken", I was compelled to point out something that makes all the difference in the world when comparing heaven to hell, life to death, or knowing God vs. not.

In the movie Taken, Bryan is a retired CIA "preventer".  In his past he prevented bad things from happening.  He retired to spend more time with his 17 year old daughter Kim.  After Kim arrives in Paris with her friend she is taken by an elite group of Albanians who specialize in kidnapping girls and selling them around the world as prostitutes.  Bryan stops at nothing to save his daughter from becoming a sex slave to a sheik, and losing her forever.

It's a powerful story.  All through the movie I wanted justice.  An incredible crime was being committed by men that have been in this business for a long time.  I wanted Kim to be rescued.

So here's where this gets personal.  What is the difference between the Arab that bought Kim for his own personal sexual use and any one person that looks at pornography on the internet?  Please take a moment with me to consider the graphic injustice in looking on the internet (or whatever) at somebody for your own personal pleasure... at their expense.

"Please understand, it was only business, it wasn't personal" was the phrase one of the businessmen shouted before Kim's father killed him.  "It's personal to me."  Bryan answered back.

Pornia is a word in greek that means 'sexual immorality.'  Our english word 'pornography' is derived from this word.  Simply said, the word pornography is not just describing looking.  At it's roots it's a broader term used to describe any kind of sexual sin.  Pornia is what Kim was being sold into, and pornia is what happens when you look at a woman that isn't your wife with lust.  They are both selfish and care nothing for the person you are using to pleasure yourself.

It starts small, one look here and one look there.  The girl on your computer screen is willfully showing herself to the world, there's no injustice there - not like in the movie Taken, right?  Wrong.  How do you know?  You don't even know her!  All you know about her is that she makes you feel good.  Have you realized that she is someone's daughter?!

God does not treat pornia lightly.  To him, looking lustfully is the same as illegally buying a young woman to be your personal sex slave.  The punishment is the same and with far more passion that Kim's dad in the movie, he will have his vengeance.  To him it is not 'just business' or 'just fun' or whatever you may try to reason it as.  To him, it is personal.

If you are involved in looking at pornography you are committing a crime against someone that God loves very much.  This crime you have committed, will cost you your life.

God promises that nobody that commits sin (of any kind) will enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Is this what you want?  Listen to your conscience, you know this is wrong!

So here are your options:  1) Continue in your sin and wait for the day of vengeance when God demands justice for what you've done.  or 2) Stop what you are doing immediately and never do it again.  Realize that this crime, like every other wrong thing you've done is exactly why you don't know God personally.  How could you by disregarding him and his standards.

Thankfully God is different than Kim's father.  God is capable of perfect love.  Even though you have committed this hanus act he still loves you passionately and wants to help you.  In fact, he wants to see YOU rescued from what YOU now deserve.  He wants YOU to know HIM forever.  Apart from Him, you are hopeless.  Don't be a fool, to know the loving, creator of the universe and be set free from your addiction is your only logical option.  To continue in lust and "pornia" will only lead to death.

This is the most important decision you will ever make... because you'll make it for eternity.

So draw the line the way Jesus taught us to.  Don't even look at a woman in a lustful way.  Jesus called this Adultery.  It's about the heart.  And the God who gave you one, sees all that's inside.  Bring it to the light.  There's nothing but freedom for you when you come to God through Jesus Christ.

Disclaimer about the Film:  Although a powerful message is portrayed, it's not error-proof in terms of moral purity.  Take caution when watching.
